All yes. Tamolitch Pool. Aka Blue Pool in good ol' Oregon! You know Mountain Chicks hit that ;). Read about Washington and Oregon Ambassadors Jessica and Madi's adventure to the Blue Pool and some other OR gems. As told by Jessica. Enjoy!
Have I mentioned how much I love Oregon?
From the first time I saw this place last summer on a visit from my (then) home in Hawaii, I was captivated by its beauty.
One of my favorite areas to explore is just a short drive from my (now) home, and it boasts some of the most popular spring/summer destinations in the state. I recently took a trip there with Adam and fellow Mountain Chicks Ambassador Madi Carson, and it did not disappoint. Here is my recommendation for an awesome day in the Mckenzie River area.
Sunrise/Magic Hour: Tamolitch Pool
Starting the trip furthest downriver from its source, Tamolitch Pool, or Blue Pool, as it is known on Instagram, is an amazing spot to catch in the magical early morning light. Not only will the pool and the surrounding area be lit better for photos, but there will be less people there the earlier that you arrive. Since its explosion on social media, this place can get pretty crowded during the day as it is a popular place to cliff jump. I personally have not done this because A. I am a scaredy cat and B. the water is like 37 degrees at its warmest! Burr!! But aside from being less crowded, the water is also more settled and clear when people aren’t jumping in it, so it looks more blue and amazing! We happened to go fairly early in the season when a lot of snow was melting and got the added bonus of a waterfall! The hike in is fairly modest with the roundtrip being 3.7 miles and 396 ft elevation gain. Footing is the only thing that slows you down as you hike through a bumpy lava flow.
This brings to me to my next obsession, my Wild Movements leggings. They first caught my eye because the design so closely resembles the Mountain Chicks logo, but upon further investigation I found out that they are even cooler than I thought! The company was started by a rad chick named Leah who loves the outdoors just as much as the next Mountain Chick. She takes beautiful landscape photos and prints them on eco-friendly, made in the USA fabric and creates leggings out of them! How awesome is that?! Now that Mountain Chicks is an official partner with Wild Movements, we can offer you a discount code to receive 15% off your order at WildMovements.com. Enter code WILDMTNCHICK at checkout.
But wait… there’s more!
We will be having a giveaway with Wild Movements starting today where you will have the chance to win your own pair of these beautiful Wildfire leggings. Check out the @mtnchicks or my @jstein_explores Instagram page for details!
There’s a rumor going around that Mountain Chicks is also partnering with Gregory Packs and that Madi Carson is one of their first ambassadors! Make sure you stay up to date with @madalynncarson for more details on that. Or just to look at her awesome shots from all of her Washington adventures!
Midday Stop: Sahalie Falls
I may be biased because I love waterfalls, but this was my favorite stop of the day!!! Located between Clear Lake and Blue Pool, Sahalie Falls is a raging waterfall that is just simply breathtaking. I think photos speak for themselves. No hike is required to view this beauty.
Shout out to Madi for being the tiny human in this shot for us.
I think she enjoyed herself.
Sunset: Clear Lake
And we end the day with the source of this gorgeous river, Clear Lake. Normally this lake lives up to its name and is crystal clear with forests of trees frozen in time below its surface. It is a scuba diving destination in and of itself. We happened to hit it on a day when snow melt was heavy and it was shockingly not clear, but beautiful nonetheless. Madi got some great GoPro shots while we were there. I highly recommend renting a boat at the snack shop and rowing out to be able to fully appreciate the clarity of the lake and what lives beneath the surface.
Here’s a shot that Adam snapped the first time I visited Blue Pool with him last summer. See how much clearer it was?
We actually made it to Clear Lake relatively early in the afternoon and didn't catch sunset there. That, we caught back on the farm at home.
If you would like to join us Mountain Chicks of the PNW on our next group hike, I’ll be hosting one on July 8th at 9 am. We’ll be doing the Salt Creek-Diamond Creek Falls Trail near Oakridge, Oregon. It is a 5.4 mile roundtrip with 1223 ft elevation gain, and our style is to take it slow and enjoy every last bit of it. Adam and I are also in the midst of launching our new photography business and would love the chance to shoot all of you beautiful people! Check out our Instagram page @naturallyinspiredphoto to see some of our recent landscape shots.
All photos in this post were shot by myself and Adam for @naturallyinspiredphoto, except for Madi’s awesome boat shots!
