Ahh yes. Arizona. A Mountain Chicks paradise. The sun is always shining and the weather never drops below 100 degrees (kidding). Valentine's Day is coming up! Whether or not you're celebrating, there's plenty of Arizona hiking and exploring to be done! We wanted to showcase some of those adventures on this blog so all you Mtn Chicks celebrate V Day the right way. Here's 5 Arizona spots for you and your significant other whether it's for Valentine's, a first date or the 100th date.
Why it made our list? The hike is just outside of Sedona (what's more romantic than red rock nation?) and features a natural lookout, said to be the spot for prospectors in the good ol' days. Set your camera or phone on self timer and take advantage of the natural lighting here. Position the camera on the ground about 20ft away from you, facing the viewpoint ahead. This will make for some perfect silhouette pics of you and your loved one. Go early in the day so you can have the spot all to yourselves. Bring snack and have a picnic as you gaze at the Sedona views.
Hammock at Lake Mary
Lake Mary is probably one of the more underrated spots in Arizona. This is a great place to relax and think about absolutely nothing, making this spot perfect for you and yours. Take a hammock and relax among the pine trees. The weather in Flagstaff is typically pretty cool, offering an escape from the Arizona heat. If you're feeling more adventurous, bring your paddle boards and get out on the water.
Talk about a fairy tale land! Horton Creek is located in Payson, a little over an hour north of the greater Phoenix area. This hike can be turned into backpacking trail. For those looking for a nice stroll, though, take Horton a few miles in where you'll be surrounded by nothing but beautiful creek spots, squirrels and greenery. Horton is a lesser known spot and is great if you're looking for something more secluded. The seclusion and ease of the hike makes it easy to focus on your significant other as you take in the forest around you that quite honestly doesn’t feel like you're in Arizona. Take some snacks and get ready for a creek-side picnic!
Talk about a gem! West Fork is definitely popular this time of year. The weather is cool and the trail is pretty simple. Get a permit and you can camp at the spot at the end of the trail. Speaking of which, if you do decide to hike this trail, go where less of the crowds do. Bring a spare pair of socks and some shoes you wouldn't mind getting wet. Yes, it'll be cold, but if you brave the short walk and go past the "end" point where most turn around, you'll be rewarded with a butterfly filled canyon that should really go unmissed. And if a walk in the water isn't your style, take the traditional hike along this Arizona forest and enjoy the nature.
